Hot monster gogo dancer ghouls!!!
Well, so these last few designs were for a pitch that Oneal Pignani aka Von Kreep from http://cartoon-funland.blogspot.com/ was gonna pitch to Rob Zombie. Captain Clegg and the night creatures are an awesome band signed to Rob Zombie's record label.
Von Kreep was gonna try to get me on board as character designer for this project.
I guess it fell through, but I still had fun coming up with the designs Based on Captain Clegg and his ghoulish bandmates. Check them out:

Clothing line featurng the designs of LA artist Leftyjoe.
So, I finally figured out what i want my clothing line to be about. CONTAS. Contras in spanish means, "those against" or, cons: pros and cons, mostly though I'm gonna gear the line's theme to "those against"... And, since I'm Mexican on one side, I'm gonna focus on mostly Mexican themes.
Here's on of the Aztec god of death.

LA artist Booleep and I where at an event a while back, here's the motley crew of interchangeable friends.
Some more NM stuff for the line revised.
Wish us luck, the line that I'm revising will hopefully be bought for the YELLOW RAT BASTARD franchise and carried in 29 stores across NY city. Wish me luck, hopefully someone like the tees!

I'm trying to portray a positive yet tajic message in these NATURE'S MISTAKE shirts. Hopefully other animal lovers dig the hidden meaning. :P

Latest updates!!!
So guys,
I'm back from Vegas.
I had a lot of fun at the apparel show Magic. I got to paint live in front of the Natures Mistake booth! ( Which btw Matt Geiger has left in my hands now. I'll be doing the sales reppin' and the art direction as well as the designing for Nature's Mistake.)
Thank you Matt, I won't let you down! I'll keep Nature's Mistake up and running and I'll take it to new heights!
I'll post the pics from the event soon.
My solo show at FARHAUS was sadly put on hold because of the Vegas trip. I tried to kill two birds with one stone by painting all my solo show pieces while at Vegas. (but it was really hard to paint and concentrate while tons of people approached me to chat the entire time) So, I guess it was like painting my solo show pieces live and letting some peepz take a sneak peek before the pieces came back to LA with me for the solo exhibition..
Well, so the show debut reception was supposed to be the 5th of September, but, since we all came back from Vegas tired, not to mention all the planning that went on for the Vegas trip, pretty much resulted in my solo show being put on the back burner. I don't mind, I'll work out the details with the lovely manager at FARMHAUS later this week.
I'm planning to do the art for the show all this month, and hang the art as it is completed. I'll invite you all to stop in periodically to check out my work as it comes into the shop! I may even try to hang out in front of the shop and paint live.
I'll iron out the details, but I'm planning on having the closing reception on September 25th from 6-9 at FARMHAUS,
chek this link for the details on the shop, (stay tuned on my blogs for final details on my solo show and more)

Ok, so check it out, this is killing two birds with one stone!
So, this Hispanic heritage month is coming. These pieces will be in two shows, woo!
After the "Mawnstirrs and Rowboughts show on the 18th, i looked up some open call shows to help a friend get into more art shows. I ended up taking the opportunity to submit a piece from the MnR show to the Los Angeles Municipal art gallery "Open call 2009" show. Well, i jumpe at the chance. I love this art scene, and where I'm going with all this!
Well, these two pieces will be in her show along with a few more i'm gonna do.
Tomorrow however, I'll be turning in my submission for the El Pueblo Historical Monument.
They will present Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the
Dead. Sacred Memories follows El Pueblo’s acclaimed 2007 exhibition
which explored celebrations that venerate the departed including Dia de
los Muertos, first observed by the indigenous people of Latin America,
China’s Qingming, and other rituals practiced in United States,
Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. Artists are asked to submit for
consideration two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars)
that examines rituals honoring the deceased and/or pays tribute to
departed ancestors. From October 19 to November 27, 2009
My submission will be in the form of a CD with images, so I figure i can put these up in Patti's show, and if I'm picked (hopefully I'm going to be) they'll be in the day of the dead show. (shoot, the pueblo people found me, so, i think that means i would get in, right? oh man, I'm gonna go pray to my ancestors for luck!!!

Oh yeah, stay tuned for the pics from the Mawnstirrs and Rowboughts show,
I'll be putting the pics up soon, they'll be on my myspace, facebook, here on this blog, on the mawstirrs and rowboughts blog, on all my other pages too, to find them all, just google web search "leftyjoe"
Stay tuned!!!
Stay tuned!!!
I turned this piece in the other day at the LA municipal art gallery in hollywood.
So, this piece was one of my final paintings for the Mawnstirrs and Rowboughts show last saturday the 18th. I decided to put it into a gallery over in hollywood. They hadn't reached their 1,000 piece limit, so i put it in.
I love Van Gogh, and I love cartoons, it was only fitting for me to combine the two. I call this my Leftyjoe-modern pop-cartoon-impressionism style. I'll be developing more pieces in this style! I love it!!! Hopefuully you like it too.
Go check out this piece in person either at the next Mawnstirrs and Rowboghts show later this year, (maybe in september or october) stay tuned!
Or go see this piece at the "open call LA 2009" at the Municipal art Gallery in hollywood, the opening is from august 13th to september 27th, oen reception will be on sunday august 16th, from 2-5pm, the address is 4800 Hollywood blvd, LA.CA. 90027 admission is free. I'll be there the 16th, (hope i win something) there will be awards handd out! Wish me luck!

Ok. So, right before starbucks closed, two lovely and wonderful young women started taking to me. We had some nice conversations. So it made up for the alienation i suffered at the hands of the kids earlier on today. :)
UGH. I freakin came out to sit and draw at starbucks across the street from a cool taco place. I was seeking inspiration for a piece for the latino heritage thingy, but i happened to sit behind the most annoying early twenty somethings. Ugh.

Leftyoe, character designer now up and coming POP artist.
I guess you can say this is my "state of the Leftyjoe career address"
Well, things have been going well for Leftyjoe.
This year has been a year of major progress. Leftyjoe, an undiscovered but up-and-coming LA based "american/mexican chicano artist has been working hard to make a name for himself.
Chuck BB a friend, invited Leftyjoe to do a piece for Chuck BB's "Black Metal" book release party. Since then, several other friends invited him into some group shows. He caught the painting bug and he hasn't stopped.
Lately,
thanks to a a chance encounter with a friend of Brado James of http://www.myspace.com/laindybazaar,
Leftyjoe has met Matt Gieger of http://www.naturesmistake.net/ who has now taken Leftyjoe under his wing to provide some entertainment at Matt's booths at many of LA's amazing independent events!

Matt Geiger has a company called FSP designs. Matt will be working closely in the near future with Farmhaus and PONY.
This friday, PONY and Farmhous had a block party at their new location.

Beer was provided for the event by affliliate: Nakhon beer, http://nakhonbeer.com/

I was supposed to do some caricatures for tips at the event, just to entertain and add a fun party favor to the event, instead I ended up doing a last minute LIVE PAINTING exhibition. I guess the guy that was supposed to do it dropped out.
Here are the pics, and hopefully I'll put more up soon from that event.
Matt called me to replace the bailed artist. I was happy to do it.
This is the live painting I did for the PONY party, it's a pony, in Leftyjoe style! I experimented in a new style just for the show, maybe a sneak peak at what I'll do in the future.

Request to Participate in International Publication on Character Design
Hi Joe,
I am emailing from Page One Publishing, a Singapore-based publishing firm specialising in art and design books. To find out more about the company, please visit www.pageonegroup.com
I chanced upon your website while doing some research for a new book our team is currently pitching and I would like to peak your interest in participating in this new title as a contributing artist. This book is about character design and focuses on the creative developments of designing a character prior to its final product. We are in the midst of collecting submissions for this book. Having seen your works, we hope that you would be keen to submit some of your character designs for selection. If this project goes through, your works will also be included in the book, which is slated for publication and distribution some time next year.
For your reference, here is a draft synopsis to help you better understand the book:
This book illustrates the conceptualisation process involved in designing characters for digital rendering. Before the transfer of a sketch into the computer, characters are drawn to detail a number of times and in various angles. In digitally rendering a character for, for example, a storyboard, it is important that the animatics consider all angles of the facial expressions, the body, the head, and even the arms and the legs. Every character should look different from a different angle, and that makes it as realistic as if a human character.
This book features character design sketches and the final digitally rendered works of adept character designers. From preliminary stages of messy hand drawn characters to its final outcome, witness how these talented illustrators bring their imaginary characters to life.
Do let me know what you feel about this and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me via email if you have any queries. I’d be more than happy to answer them.
Cheers and have a good week!

Leftyjoe: Graphic designer for a new apparel line for 2009.
So, my long time good friend Chef Luis Bali and I have known each other since Highschool. That guy is my lucky charm and I consider him Family. He's a great guy.
He works at the Chateau Marmont in hollywood. You know, that celebrity hangout hotspot.
Well, he introduced me to an equally great guy. David Garcia, the bartender at the Bar Marmont.
I trust Louie with anything. If he says "good people", I believe it. He set David and I up to work on a project together. David Garcia, an ambitious and driven man aspires to own his own independent apparel line. Well, he's not just keeping the dream alive, but he's really doing it!
We worked out a trade work for work agreement. I would do art for him, and he would later do some printing for me. Man, I have not regretted a single second with this guy!
Here are some pics of him and the Recession Renegades print shop. The pics show my art work being put to good use. I can't take any credit for the art, David directs every creative aspect, I lust do the art-gruntwork.
Check out the site, browse around, if you like what you see, shoot, feel free to order something.
